Dear Erica,
Hot off the press! In addition to the detailed analysis of the proposed rule by the Department of Homeland Security to end Duration of Status and a non-technical “explainer” document, we also have just published guidance for higher ed. institutions on how to submit a comment letter and what to include before the September 29 deadline. This guidance was developed in coordination with several higher ed associations. Note that it is geared toward those individuals who are authorized to send a letter on behalf of their institution. It may be adapted for those who wish to submit their own comment letter.
Additionally, NAFSA partnered with the U.S. for Success Coalition to launch an advocacy campaign urging Congress to engage with DHS in defense of D/S, to maintain the U.S. edge in attracting the world’s best and brightest. Add your voice! Lastly, NAFSA partnered with the American Immigration Lawyers Association and others in organizing a sign-on letter urging for an extension of the public comment period, given the complexity of the rule, broad impact, and significant economic implications. Your institution or organization has until the end of day today to join!
WHAT YOU CAN DO: Thank you for all you do. Best, Erica Erica Stewart Senior Director, Advocacy & Strategic Communications NAFSA: Association of International Educators |
