Today, Quorum’s Inclusion and Diversity Council is excited to partner with other DC Metro Area organizations to launch the Path For Progress— a step-by-step outline to help small and medium businesses (1—500 employees) build inclusion and diversity programs from the ground-up.

By signing the pledge, executives agree to a three-stage process of building inclusion and diversity programs at their respective organizations—Stage One: Lay the Groundwork, Stage Two: Build a Stable Foundation, and Stage Three: Expand the Impact.

In exchange for committing to and making progress to the stages, organizations receive access to an exclusive set of free resources, events, and mentorship opportunities. Resources include sample language for inclusive parental leave policies, in-person fireside chats on inclusion, diversity programs mentors, and more.

Quorum Vice President of Operations and Executive Sponsor of Inclusion and Diversity, Melissa Theiss, spearheaded this initiative after seeing that many Inclusion and Diversity (I&D) resources, events, and conferences were targeted at large employers with significant resources and there was a lack of programming specifically targeted at helping smaller organizations and startups build a diverse and inclusive workspace.

“As Quorum was taking steps to build a more inclusive and diverse workplace, we really struggled to find free resources for small employers,” Theiss said. “Now that we have built an award-winning inclusion and diversity program, we’re excited to be able to pay it forward by establishing a network of people and accessible resources to promote inclusion and diversity at organizations of all sizes.”

Quorum has followed this path over the past several years, with I&D efforts growing significantly following the launch of the Inclusion and Diversity Council in 2018. The I&D Council has launched a number of initiatives at Quorum, ranging in scale from hosting events that promote a diverse array of backgrounds—such as lunch and learn sessions on service members awareness and disability awareness—to the launch of affinity groups and employee resource groups. “One of the unique parts about being at a startup like Quorum is that all team members can take an active role in promoting inclusion and diversity, not just executives,” Quorum Recruiter and I&D Council co-chair, Lee Buoy, said. “Our experience is that startups are not afraid to change and they’re excited to innovate. That applies to how startups build products and to the way they build teams and communities.”

Quorum is participating in the launch of the Path for Progress on Martin Luther King Jr. Day in recognition of the Day of Service. The MLK Day of Service is the only federal holiday to encourage Americans to volunteer to improve their communities, and we hope the Path for Progress will help organizations improve their communities to be more inclusive and diverse.
